White Ribbon Campaign

Despite the sub zero temperatures this evening. BASA and Rochdale Borough Council took part in a friendly football match in support of The #WhiteRibbonCampaign

The game was played at The Soccer Factory Rochdale and we had support from The Mayor of Rochdale Mike Holly who kindly presented the winners trophy.

RBC were in the lead within minutes but Basa quickly stepped up the pressure and equalised to make it all level at 1-1. After a very good battle between the 2 teams the match ended up with Basa winning 5-2 but despite the score, the aim was to raise awareness and both teams to pledge their support for the White Ribbon Campaign, which aims to put a stop to male violence and abuse against women and girls.

Thank you to all the players who participated and all supporters on the sidelines.

Until next year RBC !

Basa Women's Football

Well done to our BASA ladies for putting together a fantastic team - many of whom were novices to football - for an amazing ladies only charity football event ran by Ayaan Foundation to raise money for Gaza . We didn't make it to the semi-finals but achieved great feedback from spectators & organisers.

A big shout out to So Solid Sisters Team which was made up of some BASA members & made it to semi-final. All the teams were amazing & this event may have just ignited a new passion for some!

Basa Women's Zumba

A fantastic turnout for our #BasaActiveWomens group who have now started their first Women’s Only Zumba Session lead by Zahida (#BibiPowerFit)

Basa secured some funding from Action Together to assist with the cost of running this 12 week programme and needless to say - it’s a massive hit so far.

The sessions are held at Wardleworth Community Centre every Wednesday 7-8pm (locked door policy)

Although the number of this group is large, I feel that we can have some more ladies in there as the room is a good size.

Huge Thanks to Zahida Bibi (BibiPowerLift) for sharing the vision

Time to reflect

So today marked another milestone between Basa Rochdale and GMP Rochdale in our annual Charity Football Match.

The weather was perfect, the supporters were fantastic and the event overall really displayed a big success story when you place 2 organisations together who have a similar ethos using the beautiful game of football as a vehicle to achieve success.

I am delighted with the outcomes from todays football match, and putting the final score aside, we all witnessed how a football match like this can really bring communities together for greatness.

I would like to thank everyone who came along today and cheered on the guys on the pitch.

A New Basa FC V Bradford FC - Open Age Friendly Community football match

Over the last few months a new incentive and focus on the Basa Football Squad has been in place.

To help rebuild a new team and bridge the gap between the elder vets team and next generations, Basa decided to create a team to allow different age groups compete together.

Our current and most prolific player Rahmat Miah has taken the role as player manager with the support of Doliz.

Today marked the first competitive friendly match against Bradford FC and both teams had a mixture of ages with some exceptional players.

A very convincing win from the new team that Rahmat has created, and credit to each and every player who have worked very hard over the last few weeks, months to make this team.

The Score - Basa FC 8 - 2 Bradford FC

Player of the match - Sehab

So what next?

(apart from investing in some chairs and flasks for BikashAliDewan)

We will be approaching many teams over the next few months leading up to summer for friendly games to keep building the relationship between Basa and other organisations for the next generations and years to come.

A big thank you to one of our biggest supporters - The Mayor of Rochdale Cllr Syed Ali Ahmed

And Mohammad Rahman for providing the superb banter, and being a great host at BACP

It was also lovely to see our Jam Tu Cool keeping his eye on every one of us and making sure things are done properly!

The White Ribbon Campaign

The White Ribbon campaign is part of a global movement to end male violence against women and girls.

Last week the community safety team organised a football match between Rochdale Borough Council (RBC) against BASA (the social enterprise BASA CIC) football club at the Soccer Factory in Castleton.

The players all pledged never to commit, excuse or remain silent about male violence and abuse against women and made a donation to the cause.

Thanks to BASA and RBC colleagues for taking part in what was a great event.

Basa Community Connect

News for All Basa Members

After many weeks spent back and forth with different organisations within the Borough, whom have similar roadmaps to Basa, paired with some additional collaboration work with Rochdale Borough Council,  A project has been devised to be delivered in the next 6-12 months.

The project itself will be in collaboration with:

Get Together After Service CIC (GTAS)

Rochdalians Juniors FC

Apocalypse Training Systems

GMP Rochdale

And of course Basa Rochdale CIC

The project has been designed to address and apply for the objectives created by Rochdale Safer Communities Partnership Voluntary and Community Sector Grant (Standing Together)

From the prerequisite ground work, the collaboration with those organisations, the involvement with Rochdale Mayor and the Council, I submitted an application which went to Rochdale Borough Council. A 22 page application form with supporting case studies, research data and sample feedback documentation went to a panel who scrutinised every detail.

I am thrilled to announce that the application has been successful and Basa has been awarded a total of £19560.

For Basa, this is a substantial milestone and achievement and as it’s the details of the project will be provided in due course.

Really exciting times ahead.

Thanks

Doliz.

Basa V GMP Rochdale. The success story

c

BASA v GMP Rochdale#CommunityCohesionCup2022 held at Rochdale AFC with Rochdale AFC Community Trust to help raise for Springhill Hospice - We managed to round it off to £1100.
A very big Thank You again!

So why do a football match?
Over the last 12 months BASA & GMP Rochdale have been participating in multiple different sporting activities and social events to demonstrate that grassroots sports can be one of the key mediums for community cohesion, building stronger relationships within a diverse community and a platform where any person can be a part of. #ThePowerOfSport#MoreThanAClub #BasaRochdaleCIC
To celebrate the collaborative work, we decided to arrange a football match and between us we looked at other organisations within the borough who have similar objectives and this is where The Community Trust at Rochdale AFC worked with us to create this event here today.

Collectively we decided that we would raise money for Springhill Hospice, with support from Rochdale Borough Council & The Mayor of Rochdale Councillor Syed Ali Ahmed

Once again - congratulations to GMP Rochdale on the win!

Thanks

Basa Rochdale CIC Major Milestone

Basa Rochdale CIC Milestone.

Over the last 12 months BASA Rochdale CIC has been proactively working with GMP Rochdale and developing more than a working relationship.

In 2021 we decided to play a friendly football match to highlight the start of our collaboration work which predominantly looks at how we tackle different elements of community cohesion, bridging the gap between diverse communities and GMP using The Power Of Sport which forms part of Our ethos.

As well as this, a 10 week training project was devised to further develop our relationship which was highly successful.

To celebrate 2022 - a rematch has been planned, only this time we are taking it to the next level and want your support to make our success something that can be echoed throughout Rochdale and neighbouring towns as this will form the basis of things to come.

Therefore I would like to invite you to come and support Basa Rochdale, GMP Rochdale & The Community Trust at Rochdale AFC on the 23rd Of May 2022 at The Crown Oil Arena where Rochdale AFC host their professional games.

Details are as follows:

Via Community Trust side entrance

Entry fees- pay on the door please

We are looking to be finished by 9pm.

This is a family event and a lot of effort and time by Basa, GMP & Rochdale AFC Community Trust has been given to make this a successful event.

Zaara takes Daddy and Basa Members to Scafell Pike

Doliz Miah and daughter Zaara completed the climb alongside members of Rochdale-based BASA (, raising more than £500 for Springhill Hospice.

Our regular BASA ramblers Taz, Mabs, Parves, Doliz, Zaara, Foyz, Murrad, Anwar, Seju, were joined today by Hassan Ahmed and Harry Lee on the first hike with the BASA family, as they completed an amazing walk up to the top of Scafell Pike, the tallest mountain in England … don’t think I need to use any words, just take a look at all the wonderful pics and vids from today … breathtaking.

… would also like to do a special mention of our basa junior Zaara on another splendid achievement at such a young age of 8, and to have raised over £500 for Springhill Hospice too! #Special

Basa Strength Crew Friendly Football Match

What a way to complete the #BasaStrengthCrew!!!

The project was created to help promote health and fitness and look at ways to tackle mental health and well being with a partnership between our #BasaCommunity & #GMP to help bridge the gap and basically get to know each other at grass root level.

A 10 week training plan was designed where we identified the requirements needed to deliver a structured plan by Apocalypse Training Systems where Coach Andy Lavery & PT Jack Fieldhouse took charge of the physical activites. The 10 weeks included, tracking methods, nutritional advice, monitoring methods, and as the week progressed, all participants were showing substantial lifestyle changes both physically and mentally for the better. The team building, encouragement and general buzz was infectious. The training also ended with a physcial fitness test which was gruelling but both teams were superb with no complaints.

Due to the numbers, 2 seperate teams were set up - and that was the birth of #BasaAlphas & #BasaBulls - and naturally this only meant a football match at the end which was competed today.

BasaAlphas V BasaBulls - the game was a tough one, but was so much fun, the score was head to head in the 1st half, but the Alphas dominated the 2nd half and scored far too many goals for the bulls to come back and were well worthy champions

A massive thank you to everyone who participated today. #basafamily

GMP V BASA - Community Cohesion Cup 2021

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) vs BASA Rochdale - 11aside Friendly Football Match

What a beautiful sunny day it was today for the inaugural Community Cohesion Cup, a match organised between BASA Rochdale and a team made up of staff from the Greater Manchester Police force. The aim of the event was to promote partnership working and further strengthen the positive relationship between the police and the local communities in Rochdale and the great work being carried out by both GMP and BASA to promote community safety.

There was plenty of positive networking as well as numerous banter going on off the pitch. As for the actual football match on the pitch. It was a competitive match played in a very friendly manner with both teams visibly enjoying the whole event. The match was evenly contested in the early stages, then after 35mins Bikash Das was put through, one on one with the goalkeeper to cooly finish making it 1-0 to BASA, and a few mins before half time Sajadul Haque made it 2-0. In the second half FC BASA’s fitness showed as the GMP team played good football but conceded a 3rd goal as Abdul Goffar made it 3-0, soon after it was 4-0 as a GMP defender scored an own goal after a dangerous cross came in. With 5mins to go Bijan Das made it 5-0 which was the final score. After the final whistle it was all handshakes and friendly banter again as everyone appreciated the fun game of football that was played. The Man of the Match was unanimously agreed to be awarded to the GMP goalkeeper Lee Bracey, he was fantastic, it came as no surprise to find out after that he had played professionally for West Ham and Swansea City amongst other teams.

The GMP team presented BASA with a shield which was a very nice gesture, and as for the GMP they received the applause and respect of the whole of BASA for their continued great work they carry out daily to keep our communities safe. Long may the partnership working continue.

A big thank you to Siham Aaleem and Saj Miah from the Rochdale Council Neighbourhood Services team and Azizul Hoque from GMP for helping to organise this great event. Both the BASA and GMP team agreed that we should definitely do it again.
